Building Communities Through Care
The Wisconsin Doulas of Color Collective (WIDOCC) is dedicated to supporting Black and Brown families with culturally competent birth and postpartum care, while empowering doulas to thrive in their work. Through mentorship, training, and community partnerships, we’re working to improve maternal health outcomes and expand access to compassionate support across Wisconsin.
Recently, WIDOCC partnered with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin to advance reproductive justice and ensure more families have access to the care they deserve. Every initiative we take on is rooted in community, equity, and advocacy because strong doulas build strong families and strong communities.

Felic
"She's encouraging, positive, she’s always willing to help no matter what…without her I would say that I would be lost."

"She will go out her way to make sure everything is understood, go out her way to make sure we have everything we need."
Sharing Knowledge. Inspiring Change.
I love stepping into spaces where I can share insights, inspire conversations, and advocate for better maternal health outcomes. Whether it’s a community panel, podcast, conference, or organizational training, my goal is always the same: to elevate the voices of Black and Brown families and the birth workers who support them.
Some of the topics I speak on include:
Maternal health equity and reducing disparities in birth outcomes
Culturally competent doula care and supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum
Reproductive justice advocacy and community-centered solutions
Training and mentorship for the next generation of doulas
If your organization, school, or community group is looking for a speaker or panelist to bring insight, energy, and expertise to maternal health and advocacy, I’d love to collaborate.

Maternal Health Advocate & Community Leader
Hi, I’m DeAnna Tharpe. I’m passionate about supporting families, uplifting birth workers, and advocating for equitable maternal and infant health, especially for Black and Brown communities.
I serve as Director of the Wisconsin Doulas of Color Collective (WIDOCC), mentoring doulas, supporting families, and expanding access to culturally competent care across Wisconsin. I’ve partnered with organizations like Planned Parenthood Advocates of WI and the March of Dimes, and I serve on state-level maternal health action teams and the Fetal Infant Mortality Review Committee.
I began my journey in birth work in 2010 as a Baby Planner and have since earned certifications as a Birth Doula, Child Safety Educator, and Perinatal Bereavement Specialist. I’m currently training to become a midwife, growing my ability to strengthen maternal health systems and support families.
Every role I take on rather training doulas, speaking, or advocating, is rooted in one mission: ensuring every family has access to compassionate, culturally aware care, and that every birth worker is equipped to make a lasting impact.
